THERE’S a wartime flavour to the latest Herald The Past feature by local historians BRIAN HARLE and ALAN DAVISON.
The pair have been delving into the Herald archives and have found food for thought in these adverts.
They were produced by the Ministry of Food during the Second World War and afterwards.
The columnists said: “There is so much written today about pensioners and how well off they are that we thought readers might like a glimpse at what it was like when they were young and there was real austerity – the 1940s.”
